APL Logistics Unveils Ambitious Sustainability Commitments

 

Harnessing Science-Based Targets to drive sustainable supply chain operations.

APL Logistics (APLL) is a global leader in supply chain management committed to developing a comprehensive sustainability strategy and roadmap. We are proud to announce aggressive near-term climate commitments to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). You can read more in our annual sustainability report, released each August. 

Our six core sustainability goals focus on climate action and decarbonising our operations, including:

  1. Reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 42% from 2022 levels by 2030.

  2. Increasing our use of renewable energy through procurement, partnerships, and integrating alternative fuels across our logistics network.

  3. Reporting on emissions reduction initiatives after finalising our GHG inventories.

  4. Exploring energy efficiency projects and pursuing LEED and green building certifications.

  5. Initiating waste diversion and tracking programmes at select facilities.

  6. Providing sustainability education to new hires and conducting annual trainings for all employees on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate reporting.

At APL Logistics China, we are advancing sustainability through innovation and collaboration:

  • Deploying the first 100% electric heavy-duty prime movers for first-mile transportation in Southern China as of early February 2024, eliminating hundreds of diesel-powered kilometres weekly.

  • Integrating rail, barge, road, and sea conversions for multimodal transportation solutions in China to reduce emissions. This includes the use of LNG or CNG vehicles for first and last-mile operations across some lanes.

  • Securing China Green Warehouse certifications for our warehouses in Ningbo and Qingdao, emphasising energy and material conservation, responsible land use, and lower environmental impact.
